Mammography
Preparation Instructions
If possible, obtain prior mammograms and make them available to the technologist at the time of the current exam.
Some women with sensitive breasts may experience discomfort. Do not
schedule your mammogram for the week before your period if your breasts
are usually tender at this time. The best time is one week following
your period if you have breast tenderness.
Always inform your doctor and the x-ray technologist if there is any
possibility that you are pregnant.
Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder, or lotion under your arms on the day of the exam. These can cause artifacts on your mammogram.
NO CAFFEINE for 24 hours prior to the exam if possible.
Present the requisition and your B.C. Care card to the receptionist when you arrive for the exam.
Please wear a skirt or slacks since you will have to undress to the
waist. Before the examination, you will be asked to remove all jewelry and clothing above the waist and you will be given a gown that opens in the front.
Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the technologist performing the exam.
PLEASE ARRANGE TO LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME, OR HAVE SUPERVISION.
